I’ve been celebrating the treasures of absolutely gorgeous spring weather over the last few days, just in time for my birthday over the weekend. It is so refreshing to have time outside to walk, read, pray, and enjoy God’s creation in many ways.
In seeking to carve out a little time for silence, listening to the Lord, and reflecting this week, my heart keeps coming back over and over to this psalm of David. So my words may seem few, but I invite you to pause and soak in this psalm and prayer with me:
“My heart is not proud, O LORD,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like a weaned child with its mother,
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both now and forevermore.”
~ Psalm 131 (NIV84)
Oh Father, what awesome grace that You would call us Your children. And that is who we truly are–beloved sons and daughters of the King. Calm our striving, our trying to figure out, our running ahead with plans. Let us find true rest in You. Let us hear Your voice in the stillness. And help us to trust You are near even in moments when we can’t hear You clearly. Still and quiet our souls in Your presence. Remind us You are God and You are enough. You spring forth new life from barren ground. You clothe the flowers of the field and feed the birds of the air. How much more do You care for us, Your treasured possession? Spur our hearts to faith, and fill us with thanksgiving. You fight our battles as we worship You. And You surprise us with goodness beyond what we can even begin to ask or imagine. Give us eyes to see Your wonders today and hearts to truly know You more and more. In the awesome, wonderful, and beautiful name of Jesus, Amen.
Treasures of worship
I’m so grateful for how a song of worship can turn around a discouraging morning and remind me of what’s really true. These songs came back to my mind with perfect timing recently thanks to a friend’s Facebook post. I’m reminded once again how worship is powerful against the enemy’s attacks on our hearts, so I can’t help but share in hopes that they can be encouraging to you as well. As always, I’d love to hear from you, too! How do you find ways to still and quiet your soul, even in busy seasons? What is your favorite thing about spring? Is there a particular worship song that always lifts up your heart to remember truth? Are there any other treasures you would like to share? Or do you have any prayer requests? Feel free to leave a comment or send me a message on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter anytime.
